Take a Scottsdale Golf Vacation. Okay all you golfers, lookingfor a different kind of golf vacation, try Scottsdale! Golf inthe desert, the crème de la crème, or even if it is expensive,it’s an experience you should have at least once before you die– probably more. You owe yourself a Scottsdale golf vacation. Lee Trevino, well known for his quips and sayings, once said ofdesert golf, “It’s like a voyage into the unknown”. The firstdesert course, Desert Highlands, was designed and built by JackNicklaus and Scott Miller in the mid 1980’s, and it was home tothe first “skins game”. It also was the beginning of thebuilding boom of golf courses in Arizona. Taking advantage ofthe desert terrain, approximately 350 new golf courses have beenbuilt since that time. Most golfers are looking to play a different kind of golf coursewhen they plan their trip to Scottsdale, enough already of thetraditional courses that they play every weekend back home…anddesert courses fill the bill.

Scottsdale and its desert courses are a “must-play” for a greatgolf vacation. We-Ko-Pa, built by Native Americans over inFountain Hills is probably the most scenic course you can playanywhere. Four Peaks Mountain (their sacred mountain) is visiblefrom most areas of the course, and the greens are set in boxcanyons, this course is beautiful and a public golf course toboot. The Boulders of course is set among 1,000,000 year oldrocks to give you pause. The Raven Golf Club at Verrado usesnatural desert terrain and plays in and around the washes. TheWhite Tank Mountains make a powerful backdrop. And for a realsleeper try the newly revamped Legend Trails, it’s a “strategiccourse” as described by it’s designer Rees Jones. You’ll belulled by the first few holes, thinking, “yeh, this course isduck soup”, with minimal desert carries, but whoa, then comeshole #7, a par 5, with water, then on the back nine you’ll getall you can handle with the desert stretching before you. LegendTrails is reasonable with outstanding views, maybe a great placeto start your Scottsdale Golf Vacation.
