How do I make a golfing green in my back yard?

I have a decent size yard and I was thinking of putting a green in it to practice my short game. Are there any specific things I need or can I more or less just mow a certain part of my yard super short. I don’t need anything special, just enough to practice.

I would try to see the head greenskeeper and pro at a golf course near you. See if they have any recommendations. Like how to prepare the soil beneath where you want to put the green. And what type of grass to use. The previous answer is bent grass. But that is not really a good answer for places like Houston. I have heard Bermuda is the grass of choice here in Houston.

To do it the right way you would need a mower like the ones that a golf course uses. also once you get the grass cut down you will have to put alot of fertilizer on it and will have to water alot to keep the grass from burning

First your backyard grass must have the right grass, bermuda or carpet grass.

mow it bout 4mm.. then you gotta spray some chemicals that you’ll have the green nice and flat. after that get a roller and roll a green. btw im not sure what’s the name of the chemical so maybe you could ask a garderner or smth.

do not mow the green in any pattern, mow it criss-cross or a same pattern so you’ll get the ball rolling straight and not bouncing left and right. I cant garauntee this is the right technique but works well and my green’s as good as the greens in augusta.. haha. cheers:)
